FRIEND FROM NOVOSIBIRSK, SIBERIA, RUSSIA

Larisa and her husband Igor brought a delegation of ten from Novosibirsk. Their enthusiasm was infectious and added to the conference along with their presentations and colorful costumes. Larisa is a songwriter and poet in addition to being Director of the Center "Women Together" in Novosibirsk.

Bettye Johnson and Louise Oliviero, author of "I Am Woman, I Am A God," are shown with Nobel Peace Laureate Rigoberta Menchu of Guatemala. Menchu was awarded her Nobel Prize in 1992 for her contributions to ending the 36-year civil war in Guatemala. Rigoberta Menchu is shown signing copies of her poster announcing her candidacy for President of Guatemala in 2007. She is the author of 30 books. She was a keynote speaker at the Third International Women's Peace Conference, Dallas, Texas, July 10-15, 2007.

Jody Williams With Bettye Johnson


Bettye with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Jody Williams at the Third International Women's Peace Conference, July 10-15, 2007, Dallas, Texas. Williams was given her Nobel award for her organization's work for the Ottawa Treaty to ban landmines in the world in 1997. Williams, from Vermont, U.S., was one of the keynote speakers and urged women to take action using non-violent methods.

Bettye attended the Third Interntional Women's Peace Conference in Dallas, Texas, July 10-15, 2007. She is shown with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Betty Williams, Ireland who in 1976 was awarded her Nobel Pace Prize for her contributions to bringing peace to Northern Ireland. Williams is the founder of World Centers of Compassion For Children International, which focuses on building Centers of Compassion for refugee children in locations all over the globe.
